We use them daily to settle bills via UPI, connect to coffee shop Wi-Fi networks, exchange contact vCards at conferences, and route customers to product landing pages.

Yet, despite their universal presence, the mobile tooling surrounding QR codes has remained outdated. Most market solutions are plagued with intrusive full-screen video ads, sluggish camera recognition, and generic monochrome grids. Even worse, standard visual generators allow users to style colors blindly frequently leading to "blind printing" errors where expensive batches of menus, flyers, or packaging fail to scan under real-world lighting.

At Ranpariya Lab (Ranpariya - The Development Lab LLP), we set out to solve these engineering challenges by developing Buzz QR AI for Android.

Here is an inside look at the technical architecture and core design decisions behind the platform.

🛠️ 1. Technical Architecture & Stack

To deliver fluid 60 FPS visual interactions alongside real-time camera decoding, we selected a lightweight, high-performance stack:

Mobile Framework: React Native 0.83+ on Hermes engine for rapid startup and low memory footprint.

Vision & Scanning: Google ML Kit Barcode Scanning coupled with React Native Vision Camera for hardware-accelerated sensor feeds.

Procedural Vector Engine: React Native SVG for dynamic, real-time procedural rendering of QR modules, eyes, and designer frames.

Android Target: Available on Google Play.

🧮 2. The Algorithmic Breakthrough: Real-Time Scanability Scoring

The primary technical hurdle when building a rich visual QR editor is maintaining scan reliability. When users introduce gradient colors, rounded modules, or centered company logos, camera sensors struggle to differentiate between data cells and finder patterns.

Instead of letting users export unscannable codes, Buzz QR AI calculates a dynamic Scanability Scoring in real time:

Luminance Contrast Delta: We evaluate the WCAG luminance formula of the selected foreground color against the background canvas: L=0.299R+0.587G+0.114B If foreground luminance exceeds safe thresholds (low contrast against light backgrounds), a progressive penalty is applied.

Module Density Weighting: Different body geometries (Square, Dots, Rounded, Classy, Classy-Round, Extra-Rounded) impact light absorption differently. Dot and rounded patterns incur calibrated correction weights.

Logo Occlusion & Reed-Solomon Margin: Central brand logos obscure QR modules. The algorithm verifies that logo dimensions do not exceed the Reed-Solomon Level H (30%) error correction boundary.

If the Badge dips into dangerous territory, the UI alerts the user immediately, eliminating expensive re-prints.

📦 3. Native Parsing for 25+ Structured Data Schemas

Instead of treating every input as generic plain text, Buzz QR AI provides dedicated schema encoders across four core suites:

Business & Commerce: Frictionless UPI payment strings (
upi://pay
), direct PayPal links, structured vCards (vCard 3.0 with one-tap native Android contact import), and digital invoice records.

Social & Creators: Direct WhatsApp chat triggers (launching conversations with pre-filled messages without needing to save the phone number first), Instagram, YouTube, Telegram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X.

Everyday Utilities: One-tap Wi-Fi connection strings (
WIFI:S:...;T:WPA;P:...;;
), geographic coordinates formatted for instant Google Maps navigation, and iCal calendar events.

Advanced Tools: Multi-link hubs, smart URLs, sensitive OTP security tokens, App Store deep links, and PDF documents.

⚡ 4. Google ML Kit Barcode Decoding Engine

On the scanner side, speed and low-light resilience are paramount:

Hardware Acceleration: Google ML Kit processes camera frames natively with sub-second decoding across extreme skew angles.

Hardware Sensor Controls: Integrated pinch-to-zoom slider for distant codes, torch toggle for low-light environments, and gallery image decoding.

Intelligent Protocol Normalization: The decoder automatically identifies payload types (UPI, tel, mailto, URL) and offers direct native action handlers with one tap.

📐 5. Infinite-Resolution Vector (SVG) & Production Exports

For professional designers and commercial agencies, raster screenshots (PNG/JPG) are inadequate for billboards, trade booths, or product packaging.

Buzz QR AI compiles the procedural SVG tree into:

Lossless SVG Vector: Infinite scalability for Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and commercial printing.

Print-Ready PDF: Pre-scaled document formats.

High-Resolution PNG / JPG: Optimized raster formats for digital messaging.

🔒 Privacy-First Commitment

We believe utility tools should respect user privacy. All core barcode decoding and QR code generation happen entirely on the user's device. No personal contact directories, Wi-Fi keys, or payment details are collected or transmitted to external servers.
